How to view file type's

With all the different file types around I thought it may be a good idea to have some info to make it easy if you have any problems. If I've left anything out please post and let me know what and I'll edit.

Most files you won't have a problem with and will be able to use WMP9/10/11 to view them.Occasionally you may get a "codec" error though and not be able to play it.I recommend you download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack Full Version. This contains almost all the things you'll ever need to view files, including Media Player Classic and Xvid and DivX codecs. If you do have any other problems try VLC PLayer which contains its own codecs and is much less fussy than any other player I know.It will often play a file that no other player will even open.

Lets look at different file types now and what you need to do with them.

WinRar e.g.file.rar

Alot of files are upped after compressing them using WinRar.You will need WinRar yourself to extract them before you play them. You'll need to download all the .rar files of a set into the same folder, right click and "extract here" or whichever option you want to use.

Occasionally you may get a set of files that will be corrupt. If this happens check the files are the correct size and if necessary download again. Some are password protected so copy'n'paste into the box when asked.

HJSplit e.g.file.001

Some files will end in .001,.002,etc,etc..These files have been split with HJSplit which you will need to join them again. It's a simple process and you don't even need to install anything on your computer to do it.Just open the program and follow the instructions.Find it and more info here

RealMedia Files e.g.file.rm

Two choices here.Either download and install Real Player which is a 14 day trial or use Real Alternative which I think is far easier and better.

PDF Files e.g.file.pdf

You'll need Adobe Acrobat in its latest version preferably to view these.
